Detecting rot in sugar beats

A big problem with sugar-beats is that the start rotting after a while. Rotten beats contaminate the production and thus eliminating rotten beats is highly interesting. We have already tried x-ray inspection, but the rot covers the entire surface of the beat, so x-ray does not reveal the rot. Instead, we have three proposed methods for detection: • Dual energy x-ray • Hyper spectral imaging • “Electronic nose” The project is to design an experiment and try one or more of the above mechanism, to determine if rot can be detected.
